NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting

Course Overview:

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is designed to provide participants with a solid foundation in pistol handling and marksmanship. This comprehensive program combines classroom instruction and hands-on range time to ensure participants are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and responsible pistol ownership.

Course Duration:

This course is a minimum of 8 hours, encompassing both classroom and range components. Our experienced NRA-certified instructors will guide participants through every aspect of the learning process, ensuring a thorough and engaging experience.

Course Content:

1. Safe Gun Handling: Learn and practice the fundamental rules of safe firearm handling to instill a culture of safety from the very beginning.
2. Pistol Parts and Operation: Gain a deep understanding of the components of a pistol, how they function, and their role in the overall operation of the firearm.
3. Ammunition: Explore different types of ammunition, their characteristics, and how to select the appropriate ammunition for your pistol.
4. Shooting Fundamentals: Master the fundamental principles of accurate shooting, including proper stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger control.
5. Range Rules: Familiarize yourself with essential range rules and etiquette to ensure a safe and respectful shooting environment.
6. Shooting Positions: Practice various shooting positions to enhance your comfort and accuracy while shooting.
7. Cleaning the Pistol: Learn the importance of regular firearm maintenance and how to properly clean your pistol.
8. Skill Development: Engage in continuous opportunities for skill development, reinforcing what you've learned in the classroom on the live-fire range.

Course Materials:

Participants will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, providing a comprehensive resource for continued learning.

Assessment:

The course includes a written Basics of Pistol Shooting Exam, and a Shooting Range practical evaluation allowing participants to gauge their understanding and proficiency.

Requirements:

No prior firearm experience is necessary for this course. No FOID card is required for this Course. If you would like help applying for your FOID card, talk to the instructor. 

What to Bring:

• 🎧 Ear protection
• 👓 Eye protection
• 🔫 Your .22lr handgun (unloaded and cased) If you already have one, if not, you can use one of ours.
• 🔵.22lr Ammunition

If you need ammo or eyes and ears let us know and we will have some available for purchase.

Certification:

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a course completion certificate from the National Rifle Association.
